CCMG notes with concern the postponement of the Mfuwe Constituency by-election which was scheduled to take place on 10 July following nominations originally scheduled for 10 June 2025. In a press release dated June 3, the ECZ announced that the Mfuwe Constituency polls will be held on 7 August 2025, with nominations on 9 July 2025.
While the Commission noted that the adjustment to the dates for the Mfuwe polls was necessitated by feedback from stakeholders, the Commission has not specified the kind of feedback which could have informed the adjustment to the dates. In the interest of transparency, we call on the Commission to, in line with Section 57 of the Electoral Process Act, demonstrate to the public and stakeholders that the initial dates were not conducive for holding free, fair and credible elections and share such feedback with the public.
CCMG remains committed to monitoring the electoral process to ensure transparency, accountability and credibility in the electoral process. To that end, ECZ should immediately provide further details of the stakeholder feedback that has necessitated the postponement of the Mfuwe Constituency by-election.
